The Golf Course
The Concession Golf Club is a Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course designed in association with Tony Jacklin. The idea to design and build The Concession was conceived in commemoration of the 1969 Ryder Cup. Nicklaus and Jacklin played in the final singles match with the Cup hanging in the balance. The drama-filled match came down to the final hole where Nicklaus conceded a two-foot putt to Jacklin. That gesture, known as “the concession,” rendered the two teams in a 17-17 tie - the first of two ties in Ryder Cup history. The United States retained the Ryder Cup having won it in 1967. That moment marked one of the greatest acts in sportsmanship, was the beginning of a lasting friendship between the two men, and inspired one of America’s premier private clubs.
The Concession’s 18-hole par 72 golf course is set on 520 acres of ruggedly pristine land dotted with immense oaks and majestic pines. It totals 7,474 yards and runs three miles from tip to tip providing players with an uninterrupted golf experience abundant with wildlife and natural vegetation.
The Concession’s greens are meticulously maintained and kept in tournament condition year round by course superintendent Terry Kennelly and his staff. The grass on the greens is TifEagle Certified Bermuda grass and the fairways, rough are TifSport Certified Bermuda. Bordering some of the bunkers and tees is Bahia grass. The course has one of the highest Course and Slope Ratings in Florida, 77.6 and 155, respectively. The slope rating is the highest allowed by the USGA. The undulation of greens and number of quadrants makes shot values extremely high.
