Colin Clark of Guilford won the Outback Steakhouse Arnold Palmer Award after defeating teammate Dave Patterson in a one-hole playoff to earn medalist honors at the NCAA Championships. It was Clark’s only victory of the season.

Rochester’s Stephen Goodridge was named the Phil Mickelson Award winner, which given to the nation’s outstanding Division III freshman golfer. Goodridge recorded five wins in his rookie campaign. His adjusted stroke-average ranked 10th nationally. Goodridge posted four other top 10 finishes.

The Eaton/Golf Pride National Coach of the Year Award was presented to Jack Jensen of Guilford. He led his team to a 25-stroke victory at the NCAA Championships. In addition to claiming the national title, Jensen led his charges to five other tournament victories this season. Jensen was also named the 2002 National Coach of the Year.  Jensen, from the South Region, joined Bob Alpers of St. John's from the Central, New York's Rick Mueller of the Northeast, Gene Nicholson of Westminster from the Mid-Atlantic, Franklin's Dick Park of the Central and Art Salvesen of Redlands from the West as the Eaton/Golf Pride Regional Coaches of the Year.
