Walshe Settles Citizenship Questions to Play for U.S.

 

Alison Walshe is looking back on a consistent season and looking forward to an equally rewarding summer.

 

The Arizona junior was honored as a First-Team Duramed Futures Tour NGCA All-American, completed the season with five top-five finishes and most recently was selected to play in the 2007 Fuji Xerox U.S.A. vs. Japan Collegiate Golf Championship.

 

“I'm so excited to play in this tournament,” Walshe said. “it means so much to represent my country.”

 

Although Walshe has spent the majority of her 22 years living in the U.S. , she was born in Galway , Ireland .

 

Recently, Walshe discovered that she has been a U.S. citizen since 2001 as a result of her parent's citizenship. Walshe considers it nothing short of an honor to play her sport for the country she calls home.

 

Not only is Walshe looking forward to representing her country, she is equally anticipating playing alongside Team USA .

 

“I've played with all the girls a bunch, and I know the coach through recruiting,” Walshe said about her teammates.

 

Walshe is a key player in this year's matches. Team USA leads the series with an 11-year winning streak. The tournament will be held July 11-13 at Tijeras Creek Golf Club in Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.

Not only is Walshe dominant on the course, she is equally as driven in her life goals.

 

Majoring in Interdisciplinary Studies, Walshe plans to attend the LPGA Qualifying School following her senior year. After graduation, Walshe intends to play professionally and work for a sports marketing company.
