Mitchell First to Represent NAIA in US-Japan Matches
Daniel Mitchell came into his senior season at Oklahoma City University with one very particular goal: to win the individual honors at the NAIA National Championship.
Not only did he accomplish that goal, but many other opportunities were created as a result of his hard work and diligence.
Mitchell received the very prestigious Arnold Palmer Award Presented by Callaway Golf (national medalist), the Jack Nicklaus Award Presented by Dillard's Inc./Hartmarx Corp (national player of the year) and was named a PING First-Team All-America selection by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
Mitchell was selected to play in the 2007 Fuji Xerox U.S.A. vs. Japan Collegiate Golf Championship, making him the first NAIA player chosen to play in the prestigious tournament.
It's all news to me, Mitchell said of being the first NAIA team member. but it just makes it that much better because it is harder to get recognition.
The competition will take place July 11-13 at Tijeras Creek Golf Club in Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.
Mitchell commented that he was excited to play on Team USA and is used to playing with the big guys.
(OCU) Coach (Kyle) Blaser is good to get our team into more competitive tournaments and a good schedule. Mitchell said.
That schedule allowed Mitchell to complete the season with eight top-five finishes.
Mitchell is a native of Oklahoma City and transferred to OCU after playing one season for Oklahoma.
Between his outstanding ability and his goal-driven leadership, Mitchell is sure to be a vital part of Team USA.
I'm excited and very honored to represent the U.S., Mitchell said.
