Burgoon Looks to Lead Team USA to Victory Once Again

After completing a successful season Texas A&M sophomore Bronson Burgoon has his eye on larger goals, representing his country once again in international tournament play.

Burgoon was a member of the 2006 USA-China Friendship Cup and was selected to represent his country in the 2007 Fuji Xerox U.S.A. vs. Japan Collegiate Golf Championship.

Although Burgoon finished the season with five top-five finishes, he describes his season as “solid.”

“I just had solid tournament after solid tournament,” Burgoon said. “but not one tournament was everything clicking for me.”

That “solid” season led Burgoon to being named a 2007 PING Third-Team All-American by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

Because of Burgoon's performance in the Friendship Cup last summer, he was a prime candidate for this year's US-Japan Matches.

“These tournaments are a great experience and opportunity to meet people from all over the world,” Burgoon said of the events. “they're definitely experiences that I will look back on in 30 or 40 years and be proud of.”

Burgoon is looking forward to a great team and tournament.

“I can't wait! Representing your country is the greatest honor there is. Playing as an individual just represents yourself, playing in college represents that college, but playing for your country is a whole different ballgame.” Burgoon said.

A committed and motivated player, Burgoon will attempt to lead Team U.S.A. to yet another win against the Japanese.

“The tournaments are so well run and I feel so honored to receive this chance again.” Burgoon said.

Team U.S.A. leads the series 24-7 and is looking to continue the winning streak by claiming its 12 th straight victory.

Tijeras Creek Golf Club in Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif. will host the 32nd annual competition July 11-13.
