Francis Marion Golfer Dies in Tragic Accident 

FLORENCE, SC - Francis Marion University junior golfer Jonathan Lavin was tragically killed in a traffic accident, Wednesday evening (Sept. 3) in Florence. Lavin, 21, was a native of Askim, Sweden. (More)

 

2008 Hall of Fame Nomination Form

 

Please follow this link to find the updated Hall of Fame nomination form for 2008.  Beginning this year at the direction of the NAB, the criteria for nomination and nominating committee have been revised.  Co-chairs, Richard Sykes and Jimmy Clayton have asked nomination forms be made available to member coaches at this time. Preseason Golf World/NIKE Golf Coaches' Polls Announced

 

NEW YORK, NY - The Golf Coaches Asssociation of America, in conjunction with Golf World and NIKE Golf has announced its preseason top 25 rankings.  Last season's champions, UCLA (Division I), West Florida (Division II), St. John's (Minn.) (Division III), and British Columbia (NAIA), are ranked at the top of their respective polls.

 

Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars Announced

 

NORMAN, Okla. — Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars for Divisions I and II have been announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America. A total of 96 players earned the honor in Division I and 26 in Division II. Additionally, nine honorees were added to the previously released released Divison III Cleveland Golf All-America Scholards. To be eligible for Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically and compete in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70-percent of his team’s competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II and 79.0 in Division III and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university. (More)

 

Labron Harris Award Scholarship Awarded

 

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Each year the Golf Coaches Association of America in conjunction with E-Z-GO Textron, presents the Labron Harris Award Scholarship to a graduating high school senior who is the dependent or sibling of a PGA Professional, and who resides in the PGA Section of the Labron Harris Award winning coach.  To earn this scholarship a student must meet or exceed requirements in GPA, SAT or ACT scores, involvement in extra-curricular activities and citizenship, and must not have already been awarded a scholarship from the PGA of America.  Nicholas Calcagno of Mount Pleasant, S.C. will receive the Labron Harris Award Scholarship in the name of PGA Professional and Duke University Men’s Golf Coach Rod Myers, who passed away in 2007. Crabtree Begins Term as GCAA President

NORMAN, Okla. —  July 1 marked the official change in composition of the GCAA National Advisory Board (NAB).  Mark Crabtree, Louisville Head Men's Golf Coach, takes over as the 23rd president of the association.  Crabtree recently completed his 18th year as a head coach and 9th season at Louisville.  He previously served as the head coach at Colorado State. Field Set for Callaway Golf Collegiate Match Play Championship
The Farms Golf Club to host 16-team event


NORMAN, Okla.  —  The field has been set for the 2009 Callaway Golf Collegiate Match Play Championship at The Farms Golf Club announced the Golf Coaches Association of America. The event - previously staged during the fall season - will be played March 22-24 and feature a new format taking into account proposed changes to the Division I championships. (More)

 

All-Nicklaus Honorees Announced
Players recognized from Division I, II, III and NAIA schools

NORMAN, Okla. —  The 20 honorees for the inaugural All-Nicklaus Team have been announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America. Players from Division I, II, III and the NAIA were recognized for their outstanding play during the 2007-08 collegiate season. (More)

 

Chappell Wins Nicklaus Award
Recognized as Division I player of the year

NORMAN, Okla. —  Kevin Chappell of UCLA was named the Division I winner of the Jack Nicklaus Award. The Nicklaus Award is presented annually to the national player of the year in NCAA Divisions I, II and III and the NAIA. (More)

GCAA Announces Division I PING All-America Teams
Second, third and honorable mention teams named

NORMAN, Okla. —  The second, third and honorable mention PING All-America Teams have been announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America. Jonas Blixt of Florida State, Indiana’s Jorge Campillo, Kevin Chappell of UCLA, Oklahoma State’s Rickie Fowler, Rory Hie and Jamie Lovemark of Southern California, Stanford’s Sihwan Kim, Webb Simpson of Wake Forest, Georgia State’s Joel Sjoholm and Michael Thompson of Alabama were previously named to the PING All-America First Team.
